Kitimat zoning map updated
The recent trend of retiree’s staying and moving to Kitimat has led to an alteration of the rural zoning map. At the end of January 2007 the District of Kitimat council was set to review the current zoning map and come to some new conclusions. After reviewing this map myself in September 2006, I have recently revisted the site. After doing some I have noticed the following alterations, The strawberry meadows subdivision is now located (in orange) on the map and there is now a small proposed( G3 in orange) subdivision in Minette Bay. To me this is very good news, especially the designation of some land in Minette Bay. The city of Kitimat has some very large potential projects coming up in the near future and now is the time to plan ahead.
Quotes from The Financial Post:
“Mr. Oviatt, the owner of J. Oviatt Contracting Ltd., sold 10 lots last year, and plans to sell 20 more in 2007. Seventeen are already spoken for. His plan is to develop his scenic Strawberry Meadows property into 300 houses on massive lots several acres in size.”
Mr. Oviatt, the developer, is taking a more realistic approach. In his office, he has an employee drafting plans for a new seniors subdivision.
The growing success of Strawberry meadows, is only a slight indication of what could be to come. Kitimat must commit to floating Kitimat as great place to retire. Regardless of 2006 census stats, houses are selling and people are building. A recent article shows the average price for a home in Kitimat is up over 15% in the last year.
